Security note:  Network users that have Moderator permission on a workspace can only invite outside users as external users and current network users to their workspaces.

  1. First, click on the Members tab of the workspace.  If this tab is not available to you, then you may not be logged in with someone who has Moderator rights over the workspace.  Only workspace Moderators can add users to the workspace.

  2. Click the "+" button  in the upper right corner.  If this does not appear, then you do not have permission to add any users to the workspace.

  3. Start typing the real name or email address of the user you wish to add.  As you type, names will appear below the cursor, and you can click on the name to select the user.

You can also type the "Tab" key on your keyboard to automatically accept the first suggestion in the dropdown.  Below is what the name looks like when it is accepted in the form.  Pete Campbell is already a user on this network, and so his entry in this form shows as a user.

If the member you are adding is not on the network yet, then you will have to type in their email address, so that PBworks can send them an invite to set up their account.  When you do this, the email address is highlighted in yellow, which signifies that the user does not yet exist on the network.  You can still add other network users to the list, so you can invite a mixture of existing users and users that don't yet exist.  When the invitations go out, users that already exist will not be forced to set a new password (because they already have one), but new users will be sent to a form to verify their name and set up their own password for access.

Note: If a user name disappears after you put them into this field, then that means they already have permission on the space.  You can only invite new members to any given workspace.

  4. You will then have the option to set the permission level they will have on the workspace they are being added to.  If you are a PBworks Admin, you will also need to set if a new user should be added as an Internal or External user.  This can be later modified in the user's profile, but for increased security, you should first add a new user as an External user.

  5.  Finally, in the last step, add a personal message to go along with your invitation.   Then, click the "Add Members" button to add the users.
